Scrapbooking
The interest in Scrapbooking has
increased immensely in recent years. So what is scrapbooking? Scrapbooking
is about preserving your memories. It is the art of taking those
stacks of photos that are stuffed in boxes in the wardrobe and
presenting them in a creative and attractive way.

Scrapbooking is when those special
photos are cropped and layered on to interesting papers and card
and decorated with ribbons, and other such embellishments. But
scrapbooking is more than this. Each page can be accompanied with
some journalling, this is the telling of the stories that accompany
the pictures, they explain, in a beautiful way, the information
that the photos alone will not show and our memory will forget.
Journalling can be a few well chosen words or a fold out booklet
that tells a story. Word dictionary definitions are a popular form
of journalling.
As
a scrapbook is a record for the future and therefore care must be taken
to ensure the products used do not damage your photos. The products you
use should be acid free and photo safe, as it is the acid in materials
that cause the pages to deteriorate over time.
But the fun and the love of scrapbooking comes from the creativity, the
page layout can rekindle as many memories as the photo's themselves,
through the colours you choose, the embellishments you add and the wording
you add. The images and wording you add to your pages can be freehand
or can be taken from compilation books for scrapbooking. Scrapbooking
is fun and a great activity to share with friends and family and what
better gift to give to a grandparent or an overseas friend but a wonderful
album full of those special times that so they can share in the joy as
well.
Scrapbooks do not have to be a huge album, they can be a single page
in a frame or even a small accordion style book that fits in a small
gift box it is up to you. But remember do not rush your pages because
your scrapbook is about special events in your past, recorded in the
present, to be enjoyed in the future.
